The BWT Alpine F1 Team has officially announced the return of Flavio Briatore to Formula 1 in the role of “Executive Advisor,” appointed directly by Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo. According to a press release from the Enstone-based team, the former Benetton and Renault team principal will focus on high-level areas within the team, including top-tier scouting and driver market insights, challenging the current project, evaluating the existing structure, and providing strategic advice within the sport.
A Season to Forget
Alpine is currently experiencing a challenging period: with just 5 points from 9 races, the team sits eighth in the Constructors’ Championship, behind Haas and ahead of Williams and Kick Sauber. Briatore’s arrival, which had been speculated for several weeks, aims to help the team plan for the upcoming season, especially with numerous technical changes expected in 2026. Regarding drivers, Briatore is believed to be behind the decision not to renew Esteban Ocon’s contract, potentially paving the way for the return of Ralf Schumacher or Fernando Alonso (post-2026, once his contract with Aston Martin expires).
An Unbroken Bond

Briatore’s journey in Formula 1 began in the late 1980s with Benetton, where he “discovered” Michael Schumacher, who went on to win his first two World Championships in 1994 and 1995 with the Italian entrepreneur. Briatore later claimed two more titles with Fernando Alonso at Renault in 2005 and 2006. Despite being ousted from F1 following the “crashgate” scandal involving Nelson Piquet Jr. (from which he was later acquitted), Briatore has remained active in the business world.
Flavio Briatore Post-F1 Ventures
Since leaving Formula 1, Briatore has been involved in various business ventures. He has expanded his Billionaire lifestyle brand, which includes luxury nightclubs, resorts, and restaurants around the world. Additionally, he has been active in the hospitality industry, particularly with his Cipriani restaurant chain and the Billionaire Resort in Kenya. Briatore has also maintained a presence in motorsports as an ambassador and consultant, leveraging his extensive experience and network to foster partnerships and organize high-profile events. His return to Alpine F1 marks a significant comeback, promising to bring his expertise and strategic vision to the team.
